A conference exploring the phenomenon of changing forest ownership due to the high investment returns offered by forests will be explored at a conference in Portland, Oregon next week.
“Investing Globally in Forestland”, to be held on September 10-12 at the World Forestry Centre, will expand the focus of previous “Who Will Own the Forest?” events to global timberland investments.
The conference will examine the potential benefits and challenges to investing in timberland and will be directed both to investors in US properties and to issues encountered by investors in acquiring offshore properties.
Organiser the World Forestry Centre said the majority of institutional timberland investments had occurred in the US so far, with European and other offshore investors increasingly looking to American timberlands for part of their portfolios.
Companies attending include The World Bank, Weyerhaeuser, Hancock Timber Resources Group, Bank of America and Plum Creek Timber Co.
