LSI Architects has completed the “major expansion and redevelopment” of Flegg High School in Martham, Norfolk, with timber frame playing a key role in the project.

The £6m development included the construction of new buildings, as well as alterations and additions to existing structures, with Norwich-based LSI Architects delivering a timber frame Business and Enterprise Centre and a timber-based first floor extension to the school’s technology block.

Flegg High School’s £300,000 Business and Enterprise Centre was designed as a community resource, as well as a usable building for the school, with meeting rooms, office space, an IT suite and 100-seat lecture theatre making the most of the 250m² footprint.

It also features a “distinctive” exposed beam roof form and includes a number of environmentally-friendly features, such as clerestory lights to reduce the building’s dependence on energy.

“The new building not only improves our students’ facilities but also provides an important community resource which is accessible and incorporates important sustainable features,” said Adrian Wood, school liaison officer at Flegg High School.

The completion of the building work earlier this month brings to an end two years of construction as part of the Norfolk Schools Project, which includes 36 individual schemes across the county to reorganise and improve schools.
