Veneer and plywood exports are to make up more than 40% of the total exports to foreign markets being processed by the Port of Porto Velho in northern Brazil during 2007, according to the Society of Ports and Waterways.
The International Tropical Timber Organisation Tropical Timber Market report states that the port has received investments in machinery and equipments to help it improve its logistics infrastucture and optimise its handling of shipments.
This has reduced the amount of finished lumber being dispatched to ports in the south of Brazil and increased the amount that the Port of Porto Velho can handle, most of which is exported to Europe, Asia and the US.
