James Latham plc has supplied timber for the recreation of five Mini Mokes, nearly 15 years after the car went out of production.

Lathams supplied European oak for use in the windscreen, dashboard, bumper bars, and rear and side boot lids, with work on the first car now complete. Each car is to have a “retro image” but is also set to be equipped with modern technology, including satellite navigation and MP3 connectivity.

Michael Stephenson, from Herrington Gate Furniture, is carrying out the project and is set to complete a second vehicle finished with walnut woodwork.

“This is a particularly exciting project and one that we are very pleased to be part of,” said Dave Brown from James Latham’s Gateshead outlet.

“The European oak was a perfect choice for this venture and we look forward to seeing the walnut Mini Moke.”

Mini Mokes were originally conceived as a light military vehicle but went on to achieve fame as a civilian vehicle, most notably as a beach buggy in Australia, the Caribbean and the US.
