The Wood Awards have been launched for 2010 with two new categories for outstanding design and outstanding craftsmanship.

The two discretionary awards will run alongside the existing six main categories and the special award for innovation. The competition is open for entries until May 21 via the website www.woodawards.com.

Anyone associated with an eligible building or furniture project – from timber supplier to designer – can enter with permission from the owner. The main categories are commercial & public access, private/best small project, structural, conservation/restoration, best use of British timber and furniture.

The chairman of the judges is Michael Morrison of architect and consultancy Purcell Miller Tritton. The judges visit shortlisted projects during the summer and announce the winners in October.
