Arfon Jones, a forest craftsman whose career spans 47 years with the same company, has received the Royal Forestry Society Long Service Medal.
The award comes as Mr Jones prepares for retirement this month from his role as forest foreman with UPM Tilhill’s South Wales district.
He began his forestry career in 1959 and he has seen the company change five times to become UPM Tilhill.
The company’s South Wales district manager David Edwards said such a long commitment to forestry was unusual. “To achieve it through the labours of woodland establishment, working all year round in all weather, is a truly remarkable achievement,” he said.
