A meeting between the Confederation of Forest Industries (ConFor) and the English forestry minister proved to be “a good opportunity” to promote the timber trade.

ConFor director Nick Hoare and chief executive Stuart Goodall, along with Doug Wentworth from Taylormade Timber Products Ltd, met with Joan Ruddock to discuss a range of issues relating to the foresty industry.

This included afforestation, climate change mitigation, the rise of biofuels, ‘business-proofing’, the promotion of timber frame construction and ensuring the sustainable management of woodlands.

“The meeting provided a good opportunity to brief the minister on the important role that ConFor members can play in managing England’s woods, in supporting rural economies and, in particular, mitigating climate change,” said Mr Goodall.

“However, there is still a lot of work ahead if we are to ensure that public policy and the actions that flow from it truly recognise and balance the interests of those who rely on the products and services that England’s woods and forests provide.”
