The Italian Sustainable Poplar Plantation Management Standard has been approved by the Programme for the Endoresement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC).
The standard will now form an “additional and integral part” of the existing Italian Forest Certification Scheme, according to PEFC.
“We are proud that the poplar standard has gained international recognition as an integral part of the Italian Forest Certification Scheme through PEFC endorsement”, said Antonio Brunori, secretary-general of PEFC Italia.
“The timber production from poplar plantations represents 50% of Italy’s national timber production and we have noted a growing demand for certified poplar products by the market and Italian panel industry. Poplar growers will now be able to certify their wood according to the internationally recognised PEFC system.”
