BASF, Sonae Indústria and crystal glass specialist Swarovski have combined their expertise to produce through-coloured MDF panels decorated with glass crystals for a display in Cologne.
The panels are being shown at the KAP Forum during the Passagen 2008 exhibition on January 14-20 to coincide with the “imm Cologne” furniture fair. The project partners say it represents the first time the combination of materials has been presented to the public.
The product, marketed by Sonae subsidiary Glunz under the TOPAN brand, is aimed at shops, trade fairs, interior design and furniture design.
“Our colourants have made a great contribution to enhancing the quality of medium-density fibreboard and opening up new applications for this type of material,” said BASF’s Juliane Krüsemann.
Swarovski, a leading manufacturer of precision-cut crystals, is more commonly known for its creations in the jewelry and fashion industries.
