The Timber Trade Federation‘s (TTF‘s) Nationwide careers and education tour had a total audience of 7,500 students in 2007.

The tour took in a number of careers fairs, including the Leeds Careers on Show and the University of Warwick’s Engineering & Technology Careers Fair, and gave the TTF’s Education, Training and Careers (ETC) Committee the opportunity to promote wood-based industries to a broad cross-section of students.

“We see our careers tour as part of a long-term strategy aimed at addressing the skills shortage within the industry,” said TTF chief executive John White.

“Today’s students are being given far more choice than ever before and the TTF, through its ETC Committee, plays a vital role in ensuring the timber industry is top of mind.”

A number of professionals from within the industry supported the careers and education tour, including Finnforest‘s Michael Lawrence, BSW‘s Alan Wheat and Mike Lisney, Hedley Harrison of SCA Timber, Linsey Gresham from Frank Gresham and Price & Pierce’s Richard Gore.
