Firefighters used a hydraulic platform to help prevent the roof of a South Yorkshire timber facility collapsing after a fire over the weekend.

The blaze, at BHL Timber Warehouse on Charles Street, Kilnhurst, begun at 3am on Sunday and saw five crews attempting to dampen the fire.

This included bringing in a platform during the firefighting to help maintain the integrity of the building’s corrugated iron roof.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue told TTJ that the building was “stacked floor to ceiling” with timber and that a large amount had been damaged by both the fire and the water used in extinguishing the blaze.

Officers returned to the 80m x 20m single storey warehouse on Monday to check for hotspots, with South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue confirming the blaze was out.
