Some 700,000 board feet of illegal wood was seized by authorities in the Philippines between 2002-2007, according to a report in the country’s media.

The Visayan Daily Star said the timber confiscated had an estimated market value of P21m (US$517,000).

Task Force Ilahas seized the timber, with the vast majority being confiscated during 2002.

Some 273 have been arrested and charged for violating the country’s Forestry Code.

Much of the seized timber is thought to be no longer usable.
