Boise is to end lumber manufacturing in White City, Oregon.
The company said it will permanently close the lumber manufacturing facility at White City, with the sawmill and planer departments being phased out during the next two months. The closure will affect 32 staff.
“The lack of affordable pine logs due to long-term reductions in federal timber sale programmes, in combination with reduced demand for lumber in both the new construction and remodel markets, are the primary reasons we are closing the White City lumber mill,” said Bruce Cartmel, Western Oregon regional manager.
The sawmill has been in continuous operation since 1950.
