Consultec’s Timber Frame software is to be used in the design and construction of a mixed-use development in Hackney, London.

Doncaster-based timber engineering firm Pavlovskis-Lister is to use the software on work it is undertaking for developer George Wimpey at the Latham’s Yard site, which has been designed to include 622 homes, retail space, office space and a range of community facilities.

Pavlovskis-Lister began using the Consultec software three years ago and said that it has resulted in “quantifiable savings to us, in terms of time and money”.

“It used to take us an extremely long time to check through a timber frame design for structural safety issues,” said director Dan Lister.

“Each element would have to be checked individually by an engineer, so even a relatively small project could take two days. Now, Consultec’s software has reduced that time to as little as a few hours.”

Consultec Timber Frame uses Autodesk’s AutoCAD or Architectural Desktop design programs to generate designs and visualisations of timber frame structures, allowing virtual checks and alterations to be made on screen.
