The construction of a large sawmill in Siberia is getting under way, with capacity set to reach 800,000m³ of sawn timber on completion.
Holtec, EWD and Jartek are the main machinery companies supplying the project, which will have a first stage capacity of 400,000m³. Further stages will also include further processing operations and a large pulp mill.
State-owned enterprise Kraslesinvest intends to complete the first stage by spring 2012. Holtec will start delivery of equipment in March, with Jartek starting in the summer.
Jaretk said its supply deal was worth €20m.
The sawmill, billed as becoming one of the most technically advanced mills in the world, will have 12 drying lines and a dry timber sorting plant capable of reaching sorting speeds of more than 160 pieces per minute.
Kraslesinvest will build up to 5,000 timber houses to accommodate its workers.
