Glenrothes-based housebuilder Lomond Homes has invested in a H&M HM-T anglemaster cross-cut saw to help it keep up with growing demand for timber frame construction.
Lomond said the saw, supplied by JJ Smith & Co, has already led to an increase in productivity in the manufacture of timber frame kits, and would help the firm achieve its “aspirations for growth in the forthcoming years”.
The £80,000 investment has replaced manual marking and cutting, with software supplied by Consultec also helping to maximise the efficiency of the saw. A direct link between the company’s technical team and workshop has increased production threefold, according to Lomond.
“Now the kits are being produced to keep Pace with the ever increasing build programme,” said production manager Derek McAndrew.
“The saw has the potential to manufacture three or four kits a day instead of three or four a week.”
Technical manager Neil Sellars added that the saw has enabled Lomond to monitor timber usage which has reduced wastage by 20% and increased yield to 98%.
