The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) Council has announced a series of endorsements and re-endorsements of global forest certification schemes.
The Estonian Forest Certification scheme has received PEFC approval for the first time, with the Belgian, Danish, Swiss Q-label and PEFC UK Certification Scheme for Sustainable Forest Management schemes receiving re-approval.
The addition of the Estonian scheme under the PEFC flag brings the number of approved certification schemes to 24.
“The endorsement by PEFC allows Estonian forest owners to certify their sustainable forest management to a certification standard that is adapted to their national conditions and to respond to the growing demand for PEFC certified wood from the international market,” said Ben Gunneberg, secretary-general of the PEFC Council.
“The re-endorsement of four national forest certification schemes proves at the same time the commitment of our members to PEFC.”
All five certification schemes will be re-assessed for PEFC compliance in five years in line with the organisation’s ongoing revision process, it said.
