UAE imports of American hardwood are projected to grow to US$25m this year, a new study shows.

The American Hardwood Export Council’s (AHEC) study shows that US$15m (60%) of the imports will be lumber.

AHEC released its predictions following what it calls a “successful” participation at the Dubai Woodshow 2008.

“The enormous demand for US hardwood products in the UAE, as evident in the ever-growing import figures such as that of lumber, is a clear indication of the outstanding opportunity for our products in the regional market,” said David Venables, AHEC European director.

Mr Venables said AHEC was taking necessary measures to ensure enough supply of US hardwood to address swelling demand in the region.

US hardwood exports to the Middle East and North Africa wider region grew by 32.3% during the first 10 months of 2007, and AHEC is confident of similar growth in 2008.
