Logistics in Forestry Transport Ltd (LIFT) is to trial a new software system to help the Scottish forestry industry manage its supply chains and optimise haulage solutions.
The software is designed to reduce supply chain costs and maximise truck capacities and routing, with scheduling and trading data monitored.
LIFT will act as agent between haulage commissioners and service providers in the system, with its board looking at the potential to develop the system on a commercial scale after the initial trial. The data collected duing the trials will be used to refine and improve the model.
LIFT is due to present the findings of the trial to the Scottish foresty sector in early 2009 in order to outline the benefits of using such a program and how the different organisations will interact throughout the process.
