Neil Donaldson used his last Timber Trade Federation (TTF) annual dinner as president to tell the industry to stick together in order to take advantage of “great opportunities” and overcome “even greater risks”.

Speaking at the dinner at Banqueting House last Wednesday, Mr Donaldson said that consolidation within the concrete and cement sectors had brought forward the need for the timber trade to speak with a united voice and that it needed to work as one to ensure its presence was felt by decision makers in Westminster.

He added that timber shortages, a fluctuation in prices, European production curtailments and the introduction of a number of new businessses to the trade had led housebuilders to “sometimes look at us quizzically and consider brick and block more approproate”.

However, he added that the timber trade was a “team of winners” that needed to become a “winning team”, with the TTF central to this drive.
