Decorative Panels is working with German technology partners Hymmen on a £2m project to improve standards of gloss finishing at the company’s Elland facility.
The new Hymmen lamination line will be installed in late summer and has been designed with a compact 40m dimension to meet factory space availability.
It will operate with a wide range of substrates, including MDF, chipboard, hollowcore, hardboard and ply.
Factory trials in Germany showed finishing materials react differently to different substrates and adhesives, so the new line will process a range of adhesive types and will condition substrates before lamination.
Decorative Panels lamination director Stephen Cadwell said the abilitity of the new technology to cross-reference substrates, adhesives and finishing materials would open up “many new markets” for the company.
The line will apply everything from 0.8mm acrylic gloss, through to 0.75mm PVCs, gloss papers and 0.2mm CPLs in roll form.
