IBAMA, the Brazilian institute of environment and renewable resource, has issued some US2.2m in fines during the first month of its Arco de Fogo operation.

The programme has seen IBAMA crack down and look to control illegal logging and related activities.

Its first month of operation saw 46 companies fined for partaking in illegal practices, 4,500m³ of logs, veneer and sawnwood confisicated, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation‘s Tropical Timber Market report.
