John Horne, operations manager at stair parts specialist Clive Durose Ltd, is hoping to raise £10,000 for a medical charity by spending his annual leave walking from his home in Stoke-on-Trent, along the Pennine Way to the Scottish Borders – a distance of around 320 miles.

The money raised will go to the Rebecca Owen Trust which funds research into scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine. Although common in adults when it occurs in children it can be life threatening as it causes intense pressure on vital organs

The Trust helps fund the bionics workshop at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, one of the world’s leading spinal research and surgical units which was set up to help combat the condition.

Mr Horne sets out on May 29 and expects to complete the walk in two weeks.

He is being sponsored by Clive Durose Ltd, which has set up a bank account for donations. To make a donation, cheques made to ROST Fundraising should be sent to Clive Durose Woodturners Ltd, Newstead Industrial Estate, Stoke-on-Trent ST4 8HX.
