Ten US sawmills have been recognised for their safety achievements by the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA).
Companies received their accolades at the SFPA Sawmill Safety Awards presentation in New Orleans.
The awards were based on the results of occupational injuries and illnesses reports from member companies, with mills being classified according to their size of production.
Seven Georgia-Pacific mills and one Weyerhaeuser facility won Division III (largest sawmill category) prizes, while North Carolina-based Lampe & Malphrus scooped the Division I award (smallest mill) and Anthony Forest Products, Arkansas, won the Division II prize.
SFPA members produce more than half America’s southern pine lumber.
