Tesco has tabled an offer for the remaining shares in Dobbies Garden Centres.
The supermarket giant already owns 65.5% of the company, and has made an offer for the remaining five million shares.
Tesco’s initial purchase of shares in Dobbies, in June last year, was driven by its desire to increase its green product range.
This includes garden furniture and other timber-based products, with Dobbies stocking pine, teak, mahogany and iroko garden furniture, as well as timber screens, trellises and other wood-based products.
“Garden centres are ideally placed to support this because, for many people, gardening is the way they express their desire to be green,” Tesco chief executive Terry Leahy said last year.
