Suma Lumber Co says it has become the first Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood producer in Suriname.

The company, which produces mainly roundwood and wet-sawn timber for export, has received the certification for a 70,000ha plantation close to the Tibiti River in the South American country.

“The certificate is a significant step towards environmentally, socially and economically sustainable wood products for both the company and Suriname,” Suma said.
