The Turkish government is investigating an allegation that US and Canadian mills are dumping OSB in Turkey, according to industry newsletter Random Lengths.
The investigation follows a complaint by Sumas Sun ‘I Tahta ve Mobilya AS, the only OSB producer in Turkey. The two North American countries have until August 1 to respond to a Turkish government notification of investigation. The official investigation, which could take 12 to 18 months, will begin after that.
Turkey could take preliminary measures against exporting countries after August 14, according to World Trade Organisation rules. It is understood that such measures could include “ad valorem” (according to value) duties, which would be refunded if damages were later determined to be unfounded.
Sumas began producing OSB in 2006.
