The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) has invited comments as it reassesses the Australian Forest Certification Scheme (AFCS).

AFCS was first recognised by PEFC in 2004, after being launched in 2000, and is approaching its five-yearly review as part of PEFC’s governance structure.

“Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) Ltd believes it has sound systems that are well based in procedural integrity and credibility for demonstrating compliance with the PEFC’s requirements,” said AFS chairman Geoff Gorrie.

The assessment is being carried out by Dutch-based FORM International and will be completed by September 23.
