An independent window and door manufacturer has developed a new slide and tilt sash window to BS 7950 requirements, in order to satisfy demand from the social housing sector.

Taunton Joinery said few similar accredited products are available and the company hopes it will meet increasing demand from the social housing sector for secure sash windows with easy maintenance.

The window was developed with Caldwell Hardware, a long-standing project partner with its Timb-A-Tilt system, and successfully tested at the Chiltern Dynamics UKAS establishment.

“We have seen a demand for slide and tilt for some time, which then became a need for social housing because some of the jobs were specifying this type of window and to BS 7950,” said Taunton Joinery director Roger Isaac.

“We will be making people aware that we have this window in our range and in the current business climate, with social housing still active, this could be a big percentage of our business.”

Taunton Joirnery, which employs 10, has already supplied 16 of the new windows for use in the ground floor of the Priory Mills housing development in Bridport, which is being refurbished for the Raglan Housing Association. The company also supplied 30 conventional sash windows for the upper storeys.
