Somerlap Pallets has replaced 20-year-old ex-sawmill plant with a second cross-cut saw supplied by Conway Saw.
The Somerset forest products company produces 30 types of pallet and manufactures about 750,000 units each year. The new Proficut X50 high-speed machine has a fully computerised setting system with the capacity to store 100 programs.
The first saw of this type was installed at Somerlap three years ago and doubled throughput, compared with manual machines.
Somerlap managing director Kevin Bond said: “With the addition of an infeed conveyor to deliver the raw materials to the machine and an outfeed to take the waste directly into skips for recycling, the new machine will increase machining capacity of raw materials and enable us to maintain the expansion of our pallet manufacturing business.”
