Timber importer James E Smith has invested £250,000 in a new treatment plant at its New Holland shipping terminal, extending its service offering for treated timber products.
The 2×18.5m vessel uses Arch’s Tanalith E water-based preservative on construction, fencing, decking and landscaping timbers.
James E Smith already uses Tanalith E at its Birmingham site, with the addition of the New Holland treatment facility bolstering the company’s commitment to “give our customer’s complete confidence”.
“Our £250,000 investment in the New Holland operation will add to our existing timber treatment facilities at Birmingham to help ensure we can supply Forest Stewardship Council or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes certified quality treated timbers to UK importers and merchants,” said managing director Barry Hurst.
“Utilising Tanalith E preservative within our two treatment operations will continue to give our customers complete confidence that their timbers can have a significantly extended service life right across the range of usual in- and out-of-ground contact applications.”
James E Smith said the New Holland facility can also be used by local timber merchants importing through east coast ports as a service treatment facility.
