Lawrie Shadbolt died on September 10 following a short illness. He was 87.

Mr Shadbolt joined the family firm of FR Shadbolt and Sons Ltd in May 1945 after exemplary service in the RAF and was quickly appointed a director. He was responsible for much of the purchasing and was a specialist in the field of veneers, for which the firm is famous. He was instrumental in the company’s transition into a major manufacturing force after the second world war. He had been retired for 27 years.

He will be sadly missed by all his friends and colleagues. He leaves his wife, Betty.
