Up to 40 workers at Howarth Timber (Windows & Doors) Ltd are to be made redundant in a further sign of the private housing slowdown’s affect on the joinery industry.

Howarth Timber Group chairman Andrew Howarth confirmed the job losses at the door and windows factory at New Holland.

The cuts follow an earlier round of job losses, believed to also total 40, at the company announced in May.

Howarth Timber Engineering, based in Bury St Edmunds, also announced redundancies during the summer as a direct result of reduced housing starts.
