A new board type offering “off-the-shelf sustainability” is set to expand as it achieves international recognition with retailers.

Re-board, from Design Force AB, jointly owned by Stora Enso, management and private investors, is manufactured from recycled paper and can be recycled itself.

Design Force says it is light, strong and printable, with the use of recycled paper and low carbon technologies in the manufacture giving it the edge over competing materials. It is even shipped on Re-board pallets to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation.

Norwegian book and gift chain Notabene has decided to replace the metal shelves in its stores with Re-board, part of a commitment to reduce its impact on the environment. This covers 130 stores across Norway, where it will replace all fixtures and fittings with 100% organic, recyclable materials.

Kurt Alden, managing director of Design Force, said Notabene was the latest retailer from Europe, the US and Japan to take note of Re-board.

“It is time to consider production facilities internationally, and being a member of the Stora Enso Group will facilitate international expansion,” said Mr Alden.
