Bespoke timber windows have played an integral part in the renovation of the Saatchi Gallery’s new 19th century home in London.

Some 90 semi-circular and square top single-glazed, box sash timber windows have been supplied by Mumford & Wood Ltd, with planners requiring a match to existing windows.

This included the provision of 17mm glazing bars, a non-standard size for Mumford & Wood. All windows were also traditional putty-glazed and factory-finished with three coats of superior grade microporous paint.

“The new Saatchi Gallery is quite fascinating and we are proud to have been invited to produce windows that have contributed significantly to the survival of this building’s historic fabric,” said managing director Chris Wood.

Formerly the Duke of York’s headquarters, the building has also been the base of the Royal Military Asylum and the Territorial Army.
