Roof window manufacturer Velux has announced new measures to cut the group’s CO2 emissions to improve its environmental and business performance.
They include improved practices in the manufacture of its products, as well as assessing emissions from its sales operations through travel, the use of paper and other activities,
Woodwaste generated from production will now be used to heat the company’s factories, while the suction of wood chips will be optimised with the use of compressed air.
The initiative will be funded by a DKr400m investment, and aims to cut the group’s 2007 emission level by 20% in 2012, and 50% in 2020.
Velux will also collaborate with other building component manufacturers to construct six carbon neutral houses to experiment with new technologies through the Model Home 2020 concept.
“We…firmly believe that respect for the climate and financial performance are interconnected and give us the competitive edge – even though certain environmental investments will take longer to recoup than other kinds of investment,” said chief executive officer Jørgen Tang-Jensen.
