South Wales-based Holbrook TimberFrame has improved its green credentials by achieving chain of custody certification from both the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Holbrook achieved the chain of custody standard through the TRADA Trak scheme and had to undergo a stringent assessment of its supply chain to ensure that protocols were being maintained and that its timber could be clearly traced from start to finish.
“We’re immensely proud of achieving both these certifications as this is not widely done in the timber frame industry,” said Philip Smith, Holbrook’s co-director. “On a practical level for our clients, it means those all-important extra credits towards the Code for Sustainable Homes.
“Strategically for the company, it could not come at a more critical time given the UK government’s current consultation on zero carbon buildings,” he continued. “Timber has a big part to play in the future of sustainable construction because it offers a high insulation value to the building’s fabric and a low embodied energy when compared with other forms of construction. We want to fly the flag for timber’s credentials and gaining this award will help us to do that.”
