The latest batch of graduates from the SCA Institute of Wood Science (IWSc) course have returned from a visit to Sweden.
It’s now seven years since SCA Timber Supply and Buildbase began working together to create “Timber Champions” within Buildbase.
The latest group of 16 Buildbase and Selco graduates from the SCA IWSc course visited SCA’s forests, tree nursery and sawmills in Sweden from March 7-9. During the trip Mike Small of the Buildbase branch in Barnsley was presented with the SCA Cup for 2009, for achieving top marks within the group.
“It’s been a magnificent seven years of continuing skills improvement for our staff,” said Martin Lee, commercial director at Buildbase. “The partnership with SCA has proved profitable for Buildbase, giving our employees the confidence to make use of the knowledge they’ve gained in their daily business lives.
Ian Wharton of Holbrook Timber Frame, winner of the TTJ Career Development Award 2008, sponsored by SCA, also joined the trip as part of his prize.
