Metsäliito has suspended operations at its northern-most sawmill in Finland because of worsening market conditions and increased competition.

The Karihaara mill in Kemi produces more than 100,000m³ of sawn timber a year, 70% of which is exported, and employs 50 people. The company said the closure was due to the mill’s higher logistical costs coupled with rapidly weakening demand, overcapacity in the European market and the devaluation of the Swedish krona.
