I was interested to read the article on Midland Engineering Ltd (MTE) investing £100,000 to produce its own trussed rafters. This is a good, positive signal for the industry.
I was, however, concerned by the implication that small is not good in terms of other trussed rafter manufacturers. “The failure of companies…has spawned a lot of smaller businesses, some of whom do not have the experience or expertise”. I would not want specifiers/customers getting the wrong impression from having read this piece.
I would like to point out that all members of the Trussed Rafter Association – large or small – have registered with an independent quality assurance scheme and carry professional indemnity insurance of at least £1m. Via these controls, we can ensure that our members’ customers are protected and confident in their choice of trussed rafter manufacturer – whatever the size.
I am delighted to hear that MTE recognises the value of joining the TRA and look forward to receiving their application.
