Finsa UK has been active on the certification front recently, gaining accreditation for plywood, chipboard and MDF.

The company has been certified by SGS to distribute its new Finply range of 100% Forest Stewardship Council certified pine plywood. The range, which is manufactured by Finsa in South Africa, is exterior grade, with 1/11 faces, CE marking and in thicknesses from 4-30mm.

“The entire timber trade must continue its endeavours to source certified sustainable timber goods to give the foresters, sawmills and manufacturers the market share and protection they justly deserve,” said Finsa UK’s managing director Rafael Willisch.

The company has also responded to demands from European furniture retailers for CARB2 compliant products. The CARB2 standard replaces CARB1, and is the Californian Air Resources Board’s standard on formaldehyde levels in panel products. The standard is increasingly being seen as the ‘de facto’ international norm.

Finsa UK has had its MDF and chipboard ranges tested by the Wilhelm-Klauditz-Insitut Holzforchung laboratory in Germany, and AITIM, the Association for Research in Wood Technology in Spain and can now offer CARB2 compliant Fibrapan E-Z MDF in 8-30mm thicknesses, Iberpan E-Z MDF in 32-70mm and Superpan E-Z – its exclusive MDF sandwiched chipboard – in 8-30mm thicknesses.
