The revised forest management requirements for PEFC forest certification in Finland have been approved by the PEFC forest certification standard-setting working group.

Working group chair Sirkka Hautojärvi said the new criteria covered the harvesting of energy wood, multiple uses of forests and the employment of foreign workers. The role of forests in carbon sequestration has also been emphasised, she said.

The revised criteria need to be endorsed by PEFC International before being implemented in forest management. Certification bodies will assess conformity to the new criteria in their 2011 audits.
