Construction of James Jones & Sons Ltd’s £22.5m sawmill at Lockerbie is at an advanced stage, according to the company.
When production starts at the “super-site” in the autumn, it will establish the mill as one of the UK’s largest timber processing sites, with a single shift capacity of 150,000m³. This will more than double the capacity of James Jones’s existing sawmill in Dumfries, which it will replace.
“This sizeable investment represents James Jones’s firm commitment to British sawmilling and timber processing while further enhancing our product portfolio as a group overall,” said joint managing director Ian Pirie.
James Jones’s Lockerbie mill will be featured in a forthcoming issue of TTJ.
