A fire has destroyed Cascade Structural Laminators’ truss and beam manufacturing plant in Washington state.

Fifty firefighters were needed to get the fire under control and the cost of the damage is estimated at around US$15m. The company has another plant in Washington.

“The heart of our building is gone – our manufacturing process,” said the company’s Steve Killgore.

“Ironically, business had picked up and we were looking to coming back to maybe a second shift in the next couple of weeks,” he added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the Washington Ecology Department is assessing 500lb of laminating glue that washed into a ditch with contaminated water from the fire.
