A brewery’s shop, schools, cafés and an oak bridge are among the shortlisted entries to the Wood Awards 2009.
Architect entrants which have made the 34-strong shortlist include Pringle Richards Sharratt, Knox Bhavan and Edward Cullinan.
The entries were chosen from nearly 200 entries by a panel of independent expert judges chaired by Giles Downes, of Sidell Gibson Architects.
“Among 2009’s submissions there has been a very wide range of entries in the commercial and public access category, as well as a fine range of private houses,” said Mr Downes.
“It is encouraging to see that good design is alive and well, despite the current difficult financial climate.”
He said the awards played a pivotal role in promoting wood.
The main categories include commercial & public access, private, structural, conservation/restoration and furniture.
