The level of timber exports from Brazil is continuing to decrease, demonstrating how the global economic slowdown has hit one of the world’s leading tropical wood producers.
The country’s wood product shipments were down 45.8% by value in April, compared with a year ago.
Tropical plywood was the biggest faller with a 65.6% reverse, followed by tropical sawnwood (-56.8%) and pine plywood (-54.7%).
In volume terms, tropical plywood exports reduced 60.6% to 9,500m³, with tropical sawnwood down 56.4% to 40,700m³.
