German window and door manufacturer Heinrich Meyer-Werke (HMW) has installed a Homag B722 powerProfiler – leading to 40 existing machines becoming redundant.

By installing the B722, HMW has rendered obselete an automatic outside moulding and profiling machine, several throughfeed moulding machines, drilling units, angular plants, double end tenoners and a variety of special purpose machines.

“The B722 CNC processing centre has enabled HMW to produce completely new window types and configurations quickly and easily, using Homag software packages that complement the equipment,” said Simon Brook, sales and marketing director of Homag UK.

For HMW, the new machine has led to 25% less manpower needed in the window and door division. “With fewer machines required to produce more, higher quality products, we have been able to deploy staff in other areas of the business where we needed extra pairs of hands,” said HMW managing partner Volker Meyer.

“Other savings have been gained in energy, through lower extraction output, and space due to the relatively small footprint of the B722. It is also economical for one-off and batch production, which given the bespoke nature of many orders these days, is a real bonus.”
