Canadian structural timber supplier Structurlam Products has won the contract for a second 2010 Winter Olympics venue.

The company, which made its mark by manufacturing a striking timber roof for the Richmond Oval speed skating venue in Vancouver, will now supply custom-made arched glulam timbers for a games preparation centre which will serve to train Olympic volunteers.

Structurlam is also currently constructing the largest wood roof in North America at the Raleigh-Durham Airport in North Carolina.

Last year the company opened the largest timber laminating factory in Canada.

British Columbia’s (BC) forests minister Pat Bell has previously praised Structurlam, saying it was expanding the market for wood in commercial and institutional construction both in BC and around the world.
