UK visitors checking out machinery on SCM’s stand were interested in system solutions, rather than single machines, the company told TTJ.

Gabriele De Col, SCM UK managing director, said he was pleasantly surprised by levels of UK visitors at the 2,500m² stand.

“Most of the customers did not come for a one-off deal, but have been discussing more relevant reorganisation of their productions involving not only stand-alone machines but entire systems or integration of existing lines with new handling and machinery,” he said.

This, he said, indicated that Ligna has more relevance for UK customers with larger projects in mind.

SCM came into the show with its 2009 sales, like other Italian manufacturers, dipping by as much as 50% due to the recession. Machinery highlights included the Windor 1, Accord 40 TVN and DMC System T5M sander.

The Windor 1 is a compact version of the Windor door and window frame machining centre, which machines tenons with single and double angles by interpolation, in order to reduce the machining spaces required. A lower unit can be added for machining channels while compressed air locks and releases tools.

The ACCORD 40 TVN with bar and pod table for producing frames and joinery components, featuring a machining head with two routing units, with on-board tool changers. Two additional magazines allow a total of 72 tools to be constantly available.
