Master joinery company Brown & Carroll Ltd of Essex recently won the contract to refurbish the Old Bailey, London.
A precise specification for the work required that only Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified materials should be used and that the original mahogany and oak materials should be matched exactly.
The historic design of doors, frames, architraves and skirting in the judges rooms, court rooms, offices and cells also had to be replicated.
Brown & Carroll sourced FSC-certified mahogany for the project from John Boddy Timber in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.
